The Barker Foundation
The Barker Adoption Foundation is a 70 year old comprehensive adoption agency, licensed in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. In 2005, our agency made the decision to tackle one of the biggest challenges that our society faces today – which was to help find homes for the over 100,000 children that live in the foster care system awaiting permanency. We wanted to find a way to use our expertise in adoption work to help vulnerable children find loving families.
In 2010, the owners of Ben’s Chili Bowl graciously agreed to host an event to help bring awareness to the community about the need for permanent and loving families for waiting older children. It was a landmark moment for our program! Since that time, The Ben’s Chili Bowl Foundation has continued to be a steadfast supporter of the Barker Adoption Foundation supporting our fundraising gala, baseball game and giving to our annual fund. They have been consistent supporters of the important work that we do.
We named our initiative Project Wait No Longer, and through the years, the program has grown, and with the support of The Ben’s Chili Bowl Foundation, we have been able to find loving and permanent families for over 100 children in the foster care system. Project Wait No Longer has been able to reunite sibling groups that previously had been separated from each other in foster care, and find loving and permanent families for children who had all but given up hope.
We thank The Ben’s Chili Bowl Foundation for all of their support of this important mission. Together, we are working hard to make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable children in our community.
